Confederate General Johnston autograph letter signed “A. Sidney Johnston”. Dated 4 June 1839, written in his hand while serving as Secretary of War for the Republic of Texas. In full, “The 1st auditor will issue his draft on the Treasurer in favor of Col. W. G. Cooke Comy. & Qr. Master General for one thousand eight hundred & twelve dollars & 20/100 & charge the Qr. Master’s Department. To be paid out of the appropriation of $100,000 for expenses of the troops under the command of General T. J. Rusk.” One page, measuring 8'' x 10''. Slight chipping and several small areas of ink smudging, including one in last name of signature. Very attractive, well-preserved document.
