Game-used official Rawlings PROAP5K first baseman’s mitt, signed in black felt tip on the back, “A. Pujols.” The individually handcrafted leather glove features red lacing and is embroidered on the thumb with the names of his children, “A. J. Pujols” and “Isabella Pujols.” The palm of the glove exhibits discoloration from use. In fine condition. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA for the signature, letters of authenticity attesting to the glove’s use from Rob Steinmetz and Dennis Esken, and photos of Pujols wearing the glove during spring training in 2004. Arguably the greatest hitter of the past decade, Pujols’s defensive skills are often overlooked—early in his career, he seamlessly went from third base to left field to first base, ultimately earning two Gold Gloves for his performance at first. This glove—branded “I.D. No. 01,” indicating that it is the first one made for him to play first base—is especially notable as it was used during spring training in 2004, the first year that Pujols made the transition to playing first base full-time. A rare item with great provenance from the future first-ballot Hall of Famer.
