Author and dog breeder (1872–1942). TLS, one page, 9 x 5.75, personal letterhead, October 3, 1923. Letter to an admirer reads, in part, “Yes, my dogs are ‘real’ and they are very much alive. They are a pack of noisy, disreputable, lovable collies. And I patted them for you, as you asked…Thanks for liking my thirdrate dog-yarns. The stories themselves have no shred of greatness in them. But the dogs are great; and that helps make my stories readable. Thanks, too, for wanting my autograph.” In the lower left corner, Terhune has added a nice profile self-portrait sketch, adding his initials underneath; and a vintage 3.25 x 5.25 postcard photo, signed and inscribed in the lower border in fountain pen. In fine condition.
