Item/Description: Original oil painting depicts a South Pacific scene of three soldiers. Painted post war by Navy Officer and Combat artist Albert Ketcham Murray. Signed and dated lower right.
Albert Ketcham Murray (American, 1906 -1992) was an American naval combat artist during World War II and a portraitist. After the war, Murray continued making portraits of naval war heroes. He became director for the Navy Combat Art Collection and its Operation Palette.

During World War II, Albert K. Murray (1906-1992) was among the five original Navy combat artists along with Griffith Bailly Coale, William F. Draper, Dwight C. Shepler, and Mitchell Jamieson. He documented in oil portraits the Navy General Board, the heroes of the USS Boise, and in watercolors the war efforts in the Caribbean and South America, and the invasion of Southern France in the Second D-Day on 15 August 1944.

Condition: Needs restoration. Signs of age and wear include pinholes, paint loss, chipping, craquelure, discoloration, scratches, scuffing. Canvas has loosened and shows slack in the stretcher bars. Chipping, loss and cracks to painted wood frame.
