Printed circular letter signed “Albert Gallatin” as Secretary of the Treasury dated 16 November 1808, addressed on integral leaf to “Joseph Wilson Esqr. / Collector / Marblehead [Port] / Massa.” Upon an order from Congress, Gallatin asks for names and addresses of violators of the Embargo Act: ''…you will…immediately prepare and transmit to me a concise statement of all the evasions and violations aforesaid…'' Letter also franked ''Albert Gallatin.'' 1pp. measures 8” x 12.5”. Adhesive tape at some edges and small tears. Very good.
