The Institute for Advanced Study has already disbursed all the scholarship funds available for the next half year. Actual positions exist only for the few permanent professors. A new opening could only be expected to occur if one of us should die or retire. Mr. Flexner therefore won’t be able to meet your request. Personally, I am living here in quite secluded circumstances and have practically no connections to the scientific community. Consequently, the young people working with me also have much difficulty lining up job opportunities for themselves.
I am pleased to hear that you are engaging yourself in such versatile, successful means and do hope you will succeed in finding a position soon. If you wish, you could forward to me one of your work projects that you deem representative. In case of a positive evaluation on my part, I would be pleased allowing you to use my name as reference in your future applications.”
Simply matted and framed (so that both sides can be viewed) to an overall size of 12.75 x 14.5. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, and scattered light soiling and toning to lower blank portion of signed side.
