Vintage matte-finish 10 x 8 photo of Einstein and another gentleman in graduation robes following a commencement ceremony, signed in fountain pen “A. Einstein.” The photo has also been inscribed, “Warm Xmas to S. P Leiderdon,” signed, and dated 1951, undoubtedly by the other unidentified man pictured with Einstein. Small areas of paper loss and tiny pieces of old tape at border edges, and silvering to some of the darker areas, otherwise fine condition.

Taken during his attendance at a circa 1951 Princeton University graduation ceremony, the elite Ivy League school was meant to be a temporary stay in Einstein’s travels. Adolf Hitler, the Nazi Party, and the rise of Fascism ensured that Einstein would never return to Germany or Europe. During his academic career at Princeton, Einstein occasionally adopted the persona of the ‘absent-minded professor’—one that at times proved to be accurate—yet his contributions to academia and mankind’s understanding of science and the world around us is beyond reproach.
