Albert Einstein Signed Photo
"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
Beautiful pair of signed and inscribed sepia-toned gelatin silver portrait prints of Albert Einstein and his wife Elsa, taken in Los Angeles by photographer Aaron Tycko in 1932. Einstein inscribes his photo on bottom mount, ''To Mr. Tycko / Albert Einstein. 1932.'' Framed and matted with a calligraphed Einstein quote, ''If my theory of relativity is proven successful, Germany will claim me as a German and France will declare that I am a citizen of the world. Should my theory prove untrue, France would say I am a German and Germany will declare that I am a Jew.'' Photograph measures 8.5'' x 11'', framed to an overall size of 18'' x 29''. Light silvering along margins of photo, else fine. Elsa's photo is inscribed on bottom mount in German and signed ''Elsa Einstein.'' 9'' x 9'' image mounted on a 10'' x 13.5'' mat and framed to an overall size of 17'' x 20''. Lower corner crease and light silvering of background not affecting the portrait image, else fine. Interestingly, the photographer Aaron Tycko was interviewed by the FBI which inquired about both his and Einstein's connections with Communist sympathizers, as a result of these photo sessions. Both Tycko and Einstein had met with Charlie Chaplin while Einstein was in Los Angeles during the photo shoot, and Chaplin was, of course, believed to have Communist sympathies.
