German-American painter (1830–1902) best known for his large landscapes of the American West during the 19th century. ALS signed “A. Bierstadt,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 5 x 8, no date. Letter to George Albert Coffin. In part: “I enclose a letter which as you will see is headed by Mr. Huntington President of the Century. I wish you to take some interest in it if you will and not subscribe in money but in time…Le Clear will appreciate all your kindness.” In very good condition, with intersecting folds with repaired separations, scattered toning and soiling, and some mirroring of ink from a different sheet.
