According to the Alaska Railroad website, the Alaska Central Railway was opened in 1903 and was reorganized and renamed the Alaska Northern Railway Company when the original company went bankrupt in 1907. President Warren G. Harding celebrated the completion of the Alaska Railroad on 15 July 1923 and died of food poisoning on his return trip. This lantern post-dates 1938, which is indicated by the peaked style of the wire ring foot. Short-Globe lantern, 9” tall, without bail, embossed “Alaska RR” and “Adlake Kero” on the lid. The standard 3.5” clear glass short globe is unmarked, and only bears three small chips on the upper rim and no damage on the lower. The drop-in fount is embossed “Use Long Time Burning Oil Only No. 300” around the top and “Adlake/ 300” on the wick guard”. Wire frame, nickel plated. - Jacobitz Collection -59712
