Signed book: Cry, the Beloved Country. First edition. London: Jonathan Cape, 1948. Hardcover with dustjacket, 5.25 x 7.75. Signed and inscribed on the first free end page, “Mrs. Allen, with warm regard from Alan Paton. Sept. 1948.” In very good condition, with moderate foxing to the left quarter of the signed page affecting some of the handwriting, lighter toning and foxing to a few other pages and boards. The dustjacket rates good with soiling, staining, a circular area of paper loss, creasing, partial separation of the front cover from the spine and missing paper at the spine’s head and tail.
