A limited edition artist proof signed and numbered print titled "Southern Gold" by Alan Fearnley, ca. 1995. The print depicts a Union supply train chugging its way through an autumn Virginia landscape. Guards can be seen on the train scanning the surrounding countryside. In the foreground, out of view of the Union guards, is a group of gray-clad horsemen watching the slow moving train and laying plans for its capture. These are the legendary Confederate rangers who made life difficult for Union authorities in southern areas where Union control could not be fully exercised. The rangers were an important part of supplying the needy South and harassing the Union invaders. Set against the backdrop of a radiant autumn, Alan Fearnley has captured the difficulty of maintaining the Union armies due to the spirit and daring of the southern rangers.

The print was published by American Print Gallery of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It includes a certificate of authenticity attesting that Alan Fearnley has personally inspected, hand-signed, and numbered each lithograph. It is numbered 47 of 50 artist proofs. It is museum quality framed and matted with an attached gold title plate. It measures 34 x 26 inches framed. Shipping quoted upon sale.
