Al Worden’s Meritorious Service Medal with accompanying certificate and citation. The bronze medallion, 1.5˝x 1.75˝, features an eagle with wings upraised, standing on two laurel branches tied with a ribbon between its talons, against a background of a five-pointed star; reverse bears raised text: “United States of America, Meritorious Service.” The medal is suspended from a white-and-magenta ribbon, and housed in its original presentation case, which also contains a matching lapel pin, citation bar, and a National Defense Service Medal bar.

The medal includes its framed Meritorious Service Medal certificate, which reads: “This is to certify that the President of the United States of America by executive order, 16 January 1969, has awarded the Meritorious Service Medal to Lieutenant Colonel Alfred M. Worden, for Meritorious Service, 16 September 1972 to 31 August 1975.” Reverse of frame bears the accompanying citation with embossed Air Force Department seal. A second Meritorious Service citation from the Air Force is included and housed in its original vinyl folder.

Also featured in the lot is Worden’s “Certificate of Retirement from the Armed Forces of the United States of America,” one page, 11 x 14, issued by the Department of the Air Force, which reads: “To all who shall see these presents, greeting: this is to certify that Lieutenant Colonel Alfred M. Worden…having served faithfully and honorably, was retired from the United States Air Force on the first day of September, one thousand nine hundred and seventy-five.” Signed at the conclusion in black felt tip by Tom Stafford. In overall fine condition.
