Al Capp Studio with Frank Frazetta - Li'l Abner Sunday Comic Strip Original Art, dated 2-13-55 (United Features Syndicate, 1955). Hernando Slideaway will do almost anything to get his hands on the coveted fashion secret of how to make Moon Glow cloth -- even court Nightmare Alice, the gnarly witchy-woman! Hernando Slideaway's moniker is no doubt a play on the title of the catchy Richard Adler-Jerry Ross song, "Hernando's Hideaway," from the movie, "The Pajama Game." As comics historian Richard Marschall wrote, "Al Capp logically belongs within the group of American humorists populated by the great local colorists and dialecticians. Capp's milieu and methods put him squarely and prominently in the bloodline of Sut Lovingood, Artemus Ward, Petroleum V. Nasby, Mark Twain, Ring Lardner, and following Capp himself, the comics' own Walt Kelly, whose Pogo further continued the precious tradition." The image area of this beautifully drawn Sunday measures approximately 27.5" x 16". Each of the panels were cut apart and mounted to a large piece of support paper. The paper shows signs of aging, edge wear, and a caption box has slipped off of the final panel; otherwise the strip is in Very Good condition.
