<B>Chicago Crime Figure Al Capone Signature Matted with Photograph of Capone at Comiskey.</B></I> <I>Al Capone,</B></I> black and white photograph, 9.25" x 9.5", np, nd. Although not dated this photograph almost certainly was taken at the the Chicago Crosstown Baseball Game held on September 9, 1931 at Comiskey Park. The card signed by Capone is also signed by Chicago Cubs players Leo "Gabby" Hartnett and Charlie Root. Mark Koenig, a Detroit Tigers player, who was not called up to play for the Cubs until 1932, so he likely signed this card at a later date than the other three. Koenig's signature is covered on the front side by the matting. This particular image was captured by the well known photographer Tony Berardi. It shows Capone in the front row of Comiskey Park with his son "Sonny" on his right, and politician Roland Libonati to the right of "Sonny". Hartnett is leaning over the railing to sign a ball for the young man. Capone's signature from his Chicago gangster days is uncommon; and the signatures of the Chicago players ties it directly to this time in his life. Capone's trial for income tax evasion began around one month after this event took place. He never returned to Chicago after being sent to prison in the Spring of 1932. This photograph has been archivally framed to an overall size of 16.5" x 16.75". It is in very fine condition; perfect for display. A rare signature from a period in this infamous gangster's life when very few autographs exist; much more common are the ones he gave out during his incarceration and retirement in the 1940s. <BR><BR><B>Importan
