Al Avison (attributed) - Dick Tracy #140 Cover Original Art (Harvey, 1960). Chester Gould's Dick Tracy comic strip was the first true to life treatment of police activity in the comics. Violent, brutal, often cruel, Gould's grisly take on crime and punishment occupies a unique place in the history of American comics in that it broke so many taboos. Here, Dick Tracy attempts to save a life, deep beneath the water of a sewage tunnel, while the victim's precious oxygen supply dwindles away. It takes a special creator to envision such an unsettling underwater situation, and Al Avison really dives in to it. The art measures 12" x 17.5" and is in Excellent condition. There are some editorial markings in pencil along the extreme edges, but outside the image area. From the collection of Larry Doucet.
