<B>Akan (Ghana)</B></I><BR>Sheet brass container, <I>forowa</B></I><BR>brass<BR>Height: 8 ¾ inches Dia.: 6 ¾ inches<BR><BR>A cylindrical canister is mounted on a cylindrical base of slightly lesser diameter, with an overlapping domical lid. All surfaces are embossed with precisely zoned geometrical or representational designs in very low relief, and the base features a circumferential series of squares made up of four open triangular shapes. Representational motifs include a pair of chief's sandals, a <I>sankofa</B></I> bird (with backward facing head), lock and key, knives, and a heart. The container itself, used for the cosmetic shea butter, has alternating panels of geometric patterning and figural representations.<BR><BR>There are several small dents in the metal and some greenish patina.<BR><BR>Provenance: H.
