<B>Akan (Ghana)</B></I><BR>Pot with lid<BR>Ceramic<BR>Height: 9 1/4 inches Width: 6 ½ inches<BR><BR>This is a footed vessel with a distinct and scalloped ridge around its belly, and above that a flaring neck. The top of the body of the pot has three zones of incised rectilinear patterns separated by three knobs in high relief. The lower neck is ridged with parallel lines, echoed at the top, with a plain band between in the center of which appear three knobs. The lid is decorated with three very simplified birds.<BR><BR>This is probably a funerary vessel.<BR><BR>The tails of all three birds on the lid are broken and chipped. There are minor rim chips. One moderate loss is on the base and one small gouge is on the shoulder of the pot.<BR><BR>Provenance: H.
