Aitor Ortiz is one of the most well-known, contemporary, Spanish photo artists; the auction record for a photograph of the series ‘Destructuras’ is set above 6,500 Euros

The Spanish photographer Aitor Ortiz created this photograph as part of the series ‘Destructuras’ in 1997. A focus of Ortiz work is set on architectural studies. Thereby, also this series shows different views of buildings, which the artist alienates in his way. He reduces them to such an extent to their elementary structure and human beings never appear so the place of happening often becomes unrecognizable. In doing so, Ortiz deprives his works of the traditional definition of architectural photography and adds his own impression and interpretation to his photographs.



The lambda print is laminated on Alu-Dibond and sealed with acrylic glass. The photograph is signed by the artist verso in felt pen and numbered 5/7. The acrylic glass shows some scratches. On the upper layer of the photo paper are yellowish stains, which most probably derive from mistakes in the bonding. The work is besides that in good condition. The dimensions are 125 x 50 cm.



Aitor Ortiz (b. 1971)

Aitor Ortiz is known for his architectural photography. Subject of his work are monumental structures, such as the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao or Norman Foster’s railway overpass in Millau in South France. The artist has taken part in various nationwide solo and group exhibitions. Examples of his work can be found in several Spanish museums, for example the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. He was awarded with the Photography Prize ‘Villa de Madrid’ as well as with the ABC Prize of Photography. Aitor Ortiz lives and works in Bilbao. (tm)
