Paris: Publie Par A. Et W. Galignani, Atlas Folio - over 23" - 25" tall. Hard Cover. Ex-Library. Very Good condition. Second Edition. Circa 1829. Bound in 3/4 red leather and red cloth, heavy raised bands on heavily gilt filigreed spines, green leather spine labels, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. BINDING & HINGES TIGHT. In 1800, the Louvre Museum was designated as the repository and gallery for France's great art treasures. This collection of 343 full page COPPER ENGRAVED PLATES, records the the great works of art displayed at the Louvre before 1815, at which time most of these were returned to their rightful owners. The text is in French and English. Volume 1 - 25pp text [1] 26pp text, followed by 79 full page plates with tissue guards and descriptive text, 4 text illustrations and a title vignette. Volume 2 - 121 full page plates without tissue guards, with descriptive text, and a title vignette. Volume 3 - 14pp text "History of Engraving", 14pp text, 8pp text "History of Painting", 8pp text followed by 61 full page plates with tissue guards and descriptive text, 8 text illustrations and a title vignette. Volume 4 - 9pp text, [1] 9pp text followed by 82 full page engravings with tissue guards and descriptive text, 4 text illustrations and a title vignette, with a Table Des Matieres at the end. The plates are discreetly stamped with ink on the back of the plates. Covers show darkening, edge and corner wear with some of the leather peeling, interior has occasional foxing. RARE & SCARCE. 1. 15% buyers premium will be added to the hammer price of each lot. A 3% discount will be offered with payment by cash or cheque. Mastercard and Visa are accepted. 3% discount only applies with cash or cheque payments. Live bidding online will incur a 20% buyers premium with no cash or cheque discounts.

3. Some lots are subject to reserve. The reserve is a confidential minimum price agreed upon by the consignor and Knotty Pine at which an item will not be sold below. Reserves will never exceed any written or verbal estimates given. The auction house will execute these reserves on behalf of the consignor. The auctioneer reserves the right to accept or reject any bid he feels is not commensurate with the value of any lot or an increment not consistent with bidding. Knotty Pine reserves the right to withdraw any lot, for any reason, at any time that Knotty Pine deems necessary.
4. Payment must be made on the day of the sale unless prior arrangements have been made. The auction house reserves the right to hold objects until the checks are cleared. Oriental rugs are cash only! A $25.00 fee will be charged for all returned checks. If the check is returned a second time an additional fee of $25.00 will be charged. The purchaser will also be responsible for the purchase price and any and all fees incurred in the collection of purchases. All collections of monies by Knotty Pine will be filed in the state of New Hampshire in the court of Cheshire County as well as any and all other courts necessary for collection. If the purchaser breaches any of its obligations to pay in full the purchase price of all items for which he/she was the highest successful bidder, Knotty Pine may exercise all of its rights and remedies under the law including, without limitation, (a) canceling the sale and applying any payments made by the purchaser to the damages caused by the purchaser's breach and/or (b) offering at public auction, without reserve, any lot for which the purchaser has failed to pay in full the purchase price, holding the purchaser liable for any deficiency plus all costs of sale & collection of monies.

5. Absentee bids will be executed as a convenience to the customer.
However, the auction house will not be responsible for any errors or failure to execute bids. A minimum of $25.00 bid is required on each absentee bid. All absentee bids require a credit card to secure the bids.
Credit cards are for the security of the auction house only, and are not a preferred method of payment. However, any lots unpaid after 30 days will be charged to the credit card and instead of the normal 12% Buyer's Premium, a 15% Buyer's Premium will be charged for this service, unless the item was purchased via live online bidding, in which case an 20% Buyer's Premium will be charged.
6. Knotty Pine, its auctioneers, or its employees will not be liable for any injury, damage, or loss incurred in conjunction with this sale. Any items left at Knotty Pine or its premises after the sale date will be left solely at the risk and responsibility of the purchaser. Knotty Pine will assume no liability for theft, damage, or loss of any items. Lots must be picked up in a reasonable period of time (14 days from sale date). Any items left for an unreasonable amount of time (over 14 days from day of sale date) may be subject to storage fees of 3% of purchase price or a monthly fee of $50.00 a month, whichever is greater.
7. Knotty Pine offers limited shipping of purchases. All shipping is provided as a courtesy to our clients & payment for shipping is by credit card only, NO EXCEPTIONS. All items are shipped by Knotty Pine or a local independent shipper. Please allow 2-4 weeks for shipping upon payment.
Purchaser is responsible for any & all costs of shipping (i.e. labor, material, insurance, actual shipping cost, etc.). All insurance on shipped items is through the shipper/carrier (i.e. UPS, FedEx, US Post Office,
etc.) & Knotty Pine is not responsible for any damages, loss, delays in shipping, etc. once shipped. All claims must be made to the shipper or carrier. Knotty Pine will assist in placing a claim but assumes no responsibility for payment or denial of payment of claims. To expedite & speed up the shipping process, Knotty Pine suggests using an independent shipper. Knotty Pine will deliver items to an independent shipper at no additional cost to purchaser upon full payment of purchase. FedEx, UPS, DHL, USPS Priority, as well as several other carriers are available.
Preference of shipper or special requests should be stated with payment.
All charges will still be placed on credit cards by Knotty Pine, regardless of the shipper used.
