For sale is a very rare piece of art glass. Most of us only see this type of glass in the fine art glass books. This 3 3/4"" tumbler is a unique opaque ware that was produced less than A YEAR by the New England Glass Company. It was patented by Joseph Locke in January of 1887. Agata has the coloration of New England ?Wild Rose? Peach Blow, shading from a deep rose at the top to a cream white at the base. Pronounced oil spots or splotches cover a portion or all of the object. These were created when the article was covered with a metallic stain, then naphtha, alcohol or benzene was spattered over it. As the flammable liquid evaporated in a muffle, the surface mottling was fixed. These pieces were never signed. This tumbler is absolutely PERFECT. Rating: zero to ten, it is an 11.
