After Shiloh. Soldiers letter, July 27
After Shiloh. Soldier's letter, July 27, 1862, Charles G. Fox, with Gen. Woods' 6th Div., 6th Indiana Battery, writing to his sister three months after Shiloh. In light pencil. "...We have left Corinth and within 60 miles of Chattanooga, where there are some Rebel troops at present, but I should not hide if we went there to clean them out...We are now within 3 miles of Winchester, Tenn. We expect the war to be pretty much over when Richmond is taken...If I had knowed [sic] as much before I enlisted as I do now, I would never come as a Private Soldier. But here I am and I cannot help it and here I have to stay...." Professionally encapsulated. With typed typescript.
