Featured in this lot is an after Rembrandt called "Portrait of Archje Claesdra," circa 1879. While the original piece was from circa 1634, this rendition is from John C. Hagen, circa 1879. This painting is a wonderfully and professionally crafted oil on canvas and wooden construction to the frame which features a heavy carved and gold gilt coloration. The painting shows a portrait of an older woman in the Rembrandt time period wearing correct time period clothing. She's wearing a masterfully executed black dress with a white ruffle that complements the expression countenance of the old woman. The plaque on the bottom of the frame reads as follows: John C. Hagen, Utah - 1879 - After Rembrandt. Rembrandt Harmenszoon Van Rijn, usually simply known as Rembrandt, was a Dutch Golden Age painter, printmaker and draughtsman. An innovative and prolific master in three media, he is generally considered one of the greatest visual artists in the history of art and the most important in Dutch art history. He was born in 1606 and died in 1669. John C. Hagen (- 1882) was active/lived in United States. John Hagen is known for minuiates, portraits and as a genre painter. John Hagen was an American 19th Century artist. Numerous key galleries and museums such as The Museum of Contemporary Native Arts have featured John Hagen's work in the past and died in 1882. The condition of this framed oil on canvas painting is good with no obvious signs of damage to the painting. It shows some minor wear to the outside frame, but otherwise it is in good overall condition. The measurements of this oil on canvas painting are 45 3/4" x 36" and the visible artwork measures 34 1/2" x 24 1/2".*
