The collector Pierre Mariette (Lugt, 1789) was the greatest print collector of the 17th Century. The present etching by Callot is known to have been mounted as a fan, according to the chronicler, Cesari Tinghi, in Ventagli Italiani, Florence 1990, where he says that the Grand Duke Cosimo II ordered cinquecento roste o ventarole in forma ovata to be distributed at festivities £300-500
