After D.H. Chiparus, Antinea Patinated Bronze Sculpture on Marble Base
A finely modeled bronze figure titled Antinea, after renowned Art Deco sculptor Demetre H. Chiparus (Romanian/French, 1886-1947). Standing 14 inches high, this elegant dancer is cast in bronze with a warm brown patina and mounted on a black marble plinth. She poses with arms gracefully raised above her head, her body adorned in an ornate, beaded costume and a flowing, patterned cloak incised with Art Deco-style floral and geometric motifs. Executed in the stylized, theatrical mode for which Chiparus is known, this sculpture captures the drama and glamour of 1920s Parisian revue. The piece is signed D.H. Chiparus to the back of the base and represents a later reproduction - likely 20th century -produced in homage to the artist's original chryselephantine works. A richly decorative tribute to one of the masters of Art Deco bronze sculpture.
