Featured in this lot is this African Congo Mongo or Ikul short sword blade circa 1958. The The blade features a wonderfully and professionally crafted iron, copper, and wooden construction that shows a spade looking blade traditionally used in Ikul blades with a spine in the middle and a curved tip sharpened blade for slicing with copper wire and tin wire wrapped handle with or turned wood and a copper loop pommel to sling it to ones attire. The blade is artistically made; it has attractive curved fullers (grooves), and the two blade halves on each side are polished silver and dulled black, respectively, to present a negative mirror image of each other. All adult Kuba men carried the ikul in historical times. The condition of this of this Ikul blade is well preserved with some oxidation tot he blade and patina to the wiring but otherwise shows a well preserved condition. The measurements of this Ikul blade is 15 1/4" x 2 3/4" x 1 1/8" and the blade length is 9 7/8". The collective weight of this Ikul blade is 6oz. The blade shows a museum mark and a date on the blade as follows: 2008.5 - 1958.
