<td width="100%">
A Nyamwezi Tribe Sculpture from Tanzania of a female seated on crossed legs ? rendered in a most unusual style ? with her hands clasping her knees. Her hair is shown with corn braids, and an old, well worn and highly patinated fabric collar adorns her neck. This may well be a fetish figure, as there is a receptacle carved into the top of her head which would usually have held the downward pointed end of a small antelope horn, filled with magical substances, and the thick collar may well conceal something within it, some sort of charged substance to give the figure its needed power. There is good overall patina, with darker patina on the head and upper torso. Except for insect damage to the underside of the base, the sculpture is in Very Good Condition. Height: 13 inches (33 cm). From a renowned and published collection in New York.
