<td width="100%">
A scarce pair of wooden figures, used in initiation ceremonies, that were field-collected in the Yaturu tribal area that is east of the better-known Nyamwezi tribal area. This was all that the inhabitants of the village were willing to part with. The religious beliefs of these people are beginning to wane in the face of the modern world, and our feeling is that these pieces may have been parted with because they are not needed as much anymore. These are not "tourist art"; they were field collected in the bush where there are no tourists. They are carved from a very heavy and dark tropical hardwood. 14 inches (35.5cm) and 12.75 inches (32.5cm). Excellent Condition.
