<td width="100%">
From the Lobi Tribe comes this charming sculpture striking a very unusual pose with his arms crossed. The elegant curvature of the crossed arms makes this a very rare piece of genuine antique African Sculpture and, unlike the vast majority of figures on the internet, it is not designed for the tourist trade. It is an authentic African antique sculpture that was used in a traditional context. 8.5 inches (21.5cm) (including custom made wood base). Excellent Condition. The Lobi people number 250,000 and live across Burkina Faso, the Ivory Coast, and Ghana. They revere spirits known as Thil. Shrines are built to these spirits under the instruction of a sorcerer and placed on the roof or inside the home and are filled with objects such as this wood figure known as Bateba, which is believed by the Lobi to embody a Thil spirit.
