African American History black & white photo prints, created in the early 1990's on photo paper. Early stage performers - Florence Flo Mills, 1909 & Sissle with Sweethearts c. 1914. Both 8" X 10". * Both prints have handwriting to the front to identify, date the images. Florence Mills (born Florence Winfrey; January 25, 1896 – November 1, 1927), billed as the "Queen of Happiness", was an American cabaret singer, dancer, and comedian known for her effervescent stage presence, delicate voice, and winsome, wide-eyed beauty. Noble Lee Sissle, ( July 10, 1889 - December 17, 1975), American lyricist, vocalist, bandleader, and civic official who was best known for his work with pianist and composer Eubie Blake, with whom he co-created Shuffle Along, the 1921 musical comedy that broke from the caricatured imagery of blackface minstrelsy to restore authentic black artistry to the American stage. The production also helped propel the Harlem Renaissance of the early 20th century.
