Adventures Of Robin Hood (1938) Merry Men Long Bow & Quiver Props
There have been over fifty versions of the grand legend of Robin Hood and his rebel army who rob from the rich and give to the poor, and protected the masses during their King's absence from the evil Norman Lords who have taken over. However the ultimate version is, without a doubt, "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (1938), starring Errol Flynn, who was born to play the part, just as Sean Connery was born to play Bond. This epic masterpiece is resplendent with eye-popping true Technicolor, a grand cast of the greatest actors of the period (including Olivia de Havilland, Basil Rathbone, Claude Rains, Alan Hale, Patric Knowles and even Roy Roger's golden Palomino Trigger, making his feature film acting debut!), swirling direction by Michael Curtiz (with help by William Keighley), and one of the greatest musical scores ever written for the screen by Erich Wolfgang Korngold. Costumes and props from this epic masterpiece are one of the most sought after of all the classic films, and what can be more iconic to Robin Hood than bow and quiver? This is an actual bow with the original string and wrapped string hand hold, plus a quiver, worn by one of Robin's gang of Merry Men in the production. The extra long shape of the wood bow is instantly recognizable as those used by both Robin, his merry men in battle, as well as during the famous archery contest. The quiver is made of wood, covered in animal suede with leather straps with rawhide lacing on both sides and a leather shoulder strap with rivets. "WCC" (for Western Costume Company) is written inside the Quiver as well as "#11" (for the character in the film who wore it. These props come from legendary Jerry Neeley's collection. Neeley was the well known film historian, writer, collector and owner of the famous "Jerry's Video" in Los Feliz, CA. Customers, collectors and throngs of famous directors, writers and industry people would come from around the world to talk to Jerry, whose knowledge and memory were encyclopedic and also to visit his magnificent famous collection of classic movie memorabilia. Also included is a Letter of Provenience from Jerry Neeley's widow and co-owner of his various video and memorabilia shops. The bow is approx 70" long, and the quiver is 20" long with a tampered body from approx 3.5" at the top to 2.5" at the bottom.
