Adolphus Busch Rare Letter About Theodore Roosevelt: "I Love Him -But..." Typed Letter Signed, 2 separate pages, on the decorative letterhead of "President's Office, Anheuser-Busch Brewing Association", 8.5" by 11", St. Louis, May 20, 1913; to journalist - and later, German Spy - George Sylvester Viereck. Normal wear, and a couple pencil notations not effecting text; otherwise quite good, with an exceptionally dark and bold signature. Here the beer magnate begs off discussing Viereck's possible entry into politics, choosing instead to talk about the recent presidential election. In part: "I believe you know my sentiments for Col. Roosevelt - I loath him - but I am not in sympathy with his actions. If he had backed President Taft for another term, he would have been the greatest and most popular man in the United States; I think he made a great mistake splitting the Republican Party, and it is a question with me whether the American people will ever forgive him..."
