Adlai Stevenson: 1952 Labor Committee Poster. This is the “Holy Grail” of posters from the second half of the 20th century. It is a mate to the FDR example, which also appears in this auction. Both are exceedingly rare, but the FDR pales in comparison to the Stevenson. Over the years we have sold or seen six to eight of the Roosevelt variety. This is the first example we have actually been privileged enough to handle. It comes ready to hang on the wall in a place of honor. It has been professionally framed and measures 28” x 34”. The matting is blue with an orange accent stripe. The colors are vivid and the graphics are beyond compare. The country had tired of Democratic leadership after 20 years and went Republican in 1952 despite the efforts of the Stevenson Labor Committee for Stevenson & Sparkman. The poster image itself is 21” x 26” with the only flaw being the original fold lines. There is a pinpoint hole of 2mm, where the original folds converge at Adlai’s chin. This is to be expected, and does not detract from the magnificence of this gem in any way. From the John Harris Collection.

Shipping: Framed - with Glass, Large (view shipping information)
