Union general and Medal of Honor recipient. Ames was the last general officer of the Civil War from either side to die, passing away at 93 years of age in 1933. Original 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite photo by S. A. Cooley of Beaufort, South Carolina, signed on the reverse in black ink, “A. Ames, Brig Genl Vols, Jacksonville, Fla, April 19th 1864.” In very good condition, with pencil notations to bottom border, some light creases, and some light toning and foxing to both sides.
