Adam Smith ''Wealth of Nations''
"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
'An Inquiry Into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations'' by Scottish economist and professor of moral philosophy Adam Smith. The three volume eleventh edition was published in 1805 by T. Cadell and W. Davies. Originally published in 1776 in London, during the British Agricultural Revolution and at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, Smith's magnum opus is a powerful statement in favor of the free market and laissez-faire government economic policy. It influenced not only other economists but also politicians and government officials, both then and now. Thomas Jefferson wrote two years after this edition was published: ''...on the subjects of money & commerce, Smith's Wealth of Nations is the best book to be read...'' The 5.5'' x 8.5'' volumes with original marble boards and leather quarter bindings are lettered in gilt. Significant wear to boards and soiling to pastedowns and endpapers. Nice tight bindings and clean pages with minor foxing. Very good plus condition.
