Adam Friedrich Oeser (Preßburg 1717 - 1799 Leipzig) Portrait of Emperor Karl VII. Albrecht, Prince Elector of Bavaria (1726 - 1745) after a prototype by Louis de Silvestre in Dresden, on a balcony, wearing armour and a silk cloak w/ the order of the Golden Fleece, baton, crown, and sceptre, oil on canvas, 243 x 125 cm, splendid, carved, gilt, orig. frame 18th cent., (Wo).€ 15.000 - 20.000 US $ 14.850 - 19.800 Karl VII. Albrecht, son of Prince Elector Max Emanuel of Bavaria. Himself a claimant to the imperial crown, based on his marriage to the daughter of Emperor Josef I., he started the War of Austrian Succession in alliance with France, Spain, Saxony, and Prussia, upon Maria Theresia's ascent to the throne. Elected emperor in 1742 with the support of France, he eventually lost everything, including Bavaria, to Maria Theresia. Only in 1744 was he able to return to Munich where he died a year later.
