Action Comics #1 (DC, 1938) CGC G+ 2.5 Cream to off-white pages. Without a doubt, the most significant comic book ever produced, Action Comics #1 opened up the floodgates for a rash of imitators, changed the course of comic publishing forever, and launched National Periodical Publications on its way to becoming the undisputed king of the comic industry for two full decades. Needless to say, this issue contains the origin and first appearance of Superman, by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Unrestored copies like this rarely turn up in the marketplace, and are snapped up quickly when they do. This copy has a 1" by 2.75" piece missing from the upper left corner of the front cover. The cover is still attached, but there is a 2.5" split at the top and bottom of the spine. There is some foxing along the left side of the front cover, but none on the back cover; the back of this book is quite attractive. The page quality on this copy is nice, and is described by CGC as "cream to off-white". This book is not brittle in any way. It might be a long time before a comparable and totally unrestored copy comes to market; now is your chance to own a true piece of comic history. Overstreet 2002 GD 2.0 value = $38,000.
