Featured in this lot is this Acoma Pueblo, Stella Shutiva, corrugated pottery vessel. The pottery vessel shows unique decoration to the Stella Shutiva design and style of pottery, with a jar lid that matches the same decoration as the jar itself. Stella Shutiva of Acoma Pueblo was a well-known potter who specialized in recreating the corrugated wares of prehistoric times. Her mother, Jessie Garcia, is credited with reviving the corrugated ware and inspiring Stella to continue in her tradition. In 1973, Stella demonstrated pottery making at the Smithsonian Institution, where she studied its collection of Acoma pottery with "the goal of combining a feeling of the past with contemporary designs.” The condition of this corrugated pottery vessel is good with wear consistent with age and is in good, overall display condition.
