Ace Powell Signed Indian Profile Color Sketch
Featured in this lot we have a framed Native American profile color sketch signed Ace Powell. Ace Powell (American 1912-1978) was a famous Montana painter, sculptor and etcher who focused on the American Indians, cowboys, horses and wildlife of our great Big Sky state. His artwork was influenced by fellow Montana artist, Charles M. Russell. Ace was married to Nancy McLaughlin-Powell and father to Dave Powell. This piece shows a portrait profile of a Native American man. The figure is shown from the shoulders up and is wearing a decorated hat with a cigarette in his mouth. The piece is colored with watercolor paints showing wonderful reds and oranges contrasted with cool blues. The piece is signed in the bottom right hand corner "Powell" with his iconic playing card. The art is set into a gilt wood frame with grooved designs and a tan border around the art. The piece shows good condition overall with little to no wear. The frame measures 11 3/4" wide by 13 3/4" tall with the art measuring 8" tall by 6" wide.
