Ace Powell Oil Chief Framed Painting & Art Book
Featured in this lot we have a framed oil on board painting of a Indian Chief by Ace Powell with a book of Ace Powells art originating from 1979. Ace Powell (American 1912-1978) was a famous Montana painter, sculptor and etcher who focused on the American Indians, cowboys, horses and wildlife of our great Big Sky state. His artwork was influenced by fellow Montana artist, Charles M. Russell. Ace was married to Nancy McLaughlin-Powell and father to Dave Powell. The painting shows a Native American chief in a buffalo horn headdress. The piece shows a wonderful impressionistic style with vibrant colors. The painting is signed in the bottom right corner reading "Powell" under an Ace playing card. The painting is set into a custom wood frame. The book is a commemorative piece published one year after Powells death. The book features a eulogy of Powell by Mike Mansfield with the rest of the piece containing a collection of Powells work through the years including color paintings, sketches, and sculptures. The two pieces show good condition overall with some light wear on the paintings frame. The paintings frame measures 6 3/4" wide by 8 1/2" tall with the art measuring 2 3/4" wide by 4 1/2" tall with the book measuring 11" tall by 8 1/2" wide.
