This oil painting on canvas by German contemporary artist Arnim Tölke (born 1963) shows the portrait in profile of Don Giovanni, protagonist of the correspondent opera with music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). The figure Don Giovanni is a young, very rampant bon vivant, who does not care about morals and refuses to purge for his sins and goes to hell at the end. The colour choice of Tölke are warm earth tones in orange, brown and red.

The painting is in good condition with normal marks of time and use like minimal colour chipping. The signature is located at the back „Don Giovanni, Arnim Tölke, 89“. It is framed in a reddish wooden frame. The total dimensions are 101.3 x 91.5 cm (framed) and 100.4 x 91.5 cm (canvas).

Arnim Tölke (born 1963)
Arnim Tölke is contemporary German painter and was born in Göttingen in 1963. He was taught by Markus Lüpertz. In addition, he is a member of the painters group D.A.R.M. Very often he depicts masculine themes, for example works that include macho and military themes. He has travelled a lot to war zones for inspiration and his most dangerous trip was to Uganda where he came in direct contact with the Civil War. Since 1991, he teaches life-painting at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf.
