Absolutely Rare and Unusual Authentic Fine Persian Ferahan Rug. 100% Natural, vegetable dye, hand woven, baby lambs wool pile on cotton foundation. Towards the end of the 19th century, carpet merchants in Tabriz in northern Persia began to enjoy strong demand for carpets from the west. To meet demand, by 1875 they had organized Rug weaving workshops in and around the town of Arak, formerly known as Sultan-Abad in northwestern Persia. By 1883 western companies had also established their own presence in the town of Ferahan, a village in the Sultan-Abad region. Ziegler and Company in particular, was the first and the most important, producing Rugs for many years to come with western tastes in mind. This is a lovely example of a Ferahan Rug. Creases are due to fold and not a defect. Size: 6 feet 4 inches X 4 feet 1 inch. Country of Origin: Iran.
