Absolutely Rare and Captivating Fine handmade Persian Kashkuli Rug
Absolutely Rare and Captivating Fine handmade Persian Kashkuli Rug. 100% Natural, vegetable dye, hand woven, finest baby lambs wool pile on cotton foundation. This is a remarkable, quite dazzling hand woven piece and an important one for several reasons. Firstly, it is known as a Mastooreh or Sample Rug, meaning that both its design and color schemes are representative of the multiple Kashkuli designs employed in Rugs woven over centuries. This lovely piece is all the more unusual due to its noticeable lack of symmetry, since the various segments of the Rug represent dis-assembled motifs taken from those many timeless traditional designs. An interesting characteristic of these rare Sample Rugs are the free flow of design motifs and colors from the field onto the borders and vice versa, as though lines and boundaries have no bearing on the free flow of ideas from the artists imagination. One can make the same observation in literature, in James Joyce Ulysses for example, and in the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, neither of which were limited by borders. What makes this magnificent piece all the more impressive is that the birthplace of such a sophisticated work of art is among minimally educated tribal nomads, the Kaskuli, a Qashqai sub-tribe. It must be regarded as an expression of mans intrinsic artistic genius, and in a sense, a celebration of life. notable features include the multicolored trunk and stylized form of the Tree of life. The pear-shaped fruit at the bottom right corner bearing a double paisley design in its belly, and the head and beak of a bird embedded in a paisley-shaped leaf in the middle of the field. The earth tone colors used here have a lovely soft patina. This is a truly artistic piece, highly collectible, a rarity which few Rug experts will encounter in the course of their entire life time. Indeed, a true museum-quality piece. This lovely Kashkuli Rug comes with a certificate of authenticity. Size: 6 feet 9 inches X 5feet. Country of Origin: Iran.
