Abrahan Manievich (Russian/American, 1881-1942), “Neighborhood Scene”, c. 1925; oil/canvas, 21” x 29”, unsigned, estate stamped. Manievich emigrated to the US in 1922, settling in the Bronx. He painted regional scenes in Pittsburgh, villages along the Hudson River and in Connecticut, and winter scenes in Canada. His exhibitions were praised for their lyrical yet vigorous brushwork and expressive use of color. He exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum, ; Babcock Gallery, NYC, ; Peabody Institute, Copley Society, Art Institute of Chicago, and the Carnegie Institute (all in the 1920s). This is an excellent example of Manievich’s best subject.
