Civil War-dated partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 14 x 18.5, March 1, 1864. President Lincoln appoints George W. Cushing as “Assistant Quartermaster of Volunteers, with the rank of Captain, in the service of the United States.” Signed at the conclusion by Lincoln, and countersigned by Edwin M. Stanton as secretary of war. Green War Office seal affixed to upper left remains intact. Handsomely cloth-matted and framed with a portrait of Lincoln and an engraved nameplate to an overall size of 33 x 29.75. In fine condition, with moderate overall rippling to the vellum. Oversized.
