A decree in Reuben Hatch vs John Preston and John Wightman, prepared for and signed by the judge, "<I>D. Davis</B></I>" (David Davis, a close personal friend and long-time legal associate of Lincoln, who helped secure his presidential nomination in 1860, was appointed by him to the U.S. Supreme Court, and administered his estate). Davis declares a conveyance by Preston to Wightman "<I>set aside and held for naught, as being fraudulent</B></I>" and orders that certain "<I>lands, or so much thereof as may be necessary, be sold to satisfy and paythe complainantinPike County Circuit Court</B></I>", and "<I>that the sheriff of Tazewell proceed upon the levy already made according to the rules of the common law</B></I>" Scattered light age toning. <I>From the Henry E.
