Abraham Lincoln Unsigned Autograph Document. Sangamon Co. (Ill.), 16 March 1846, three pages, folio. In Mathew P. Crowder vs Lewis A. Collier, a lawsuit over a 20-acre tract of land, Collier denies that the plaintiff had or could convey full and proper title because an earlier conveyance by Betsy Nelson was "insufficient, in not describing particularly the land to be conveyed, but only describing it as a certain tract…on Horse Creek…" Collier further alleges that Betsy was not then "sole" (unmarried) but was "the lawful wife of…John Taylor, and so was without capacity to convey…without the joining therein of her said husband…" From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection.
