American lawyer (1800–1880) who was the friend and law partner of Abraham Lincoln. Manuscript DS, signed “Lincoln & Logan,” three pages on two lightly lined 7.5 x 12.5 sheets, 1842. A brief filed with the Circuit Court judge of Sangamon County outlining the settlement of debts and sale of lands by the heirs of John Lauterman. In part: “The whole proceeds of the personal estate of said John Lauterman deceased amounted only to-$173.70-and that the debts against the estate so far as yet ascertained amounted to $307.63.” Accompanied by a typescript on Lincoln Library [Shippensburg, Pa.] letterhead. In good to very good condition, with light toning, show-through of writing, a few small pencil notations, and separations along folds. An uncommon offering from Lincoln’s first law partner.
