Abraham Lincoln Prisoner Release Document Signed Abraham Lincoln Valentine's Day Prisoner Release
Abraham Lincoln "Valentine's Day" Prisoner Release Endorsement Signed "A Lincoln" on the verso of a lined sheet 3.25" x 2.375", np, February 14, 1865. In full, "Let the Prisoner be released on taking the oath of Dec. 8, 1863...Feb. 14, 1865." written by his secretary, John Hay, and signed above the date by Lincoln himself. Mr. Luhrs purchased this item from John Heise Autographs in 1937. Apparently, he had been seeking a Lincoln item dated on Valentine's Day for some time. He then used this item to produce a souvenir Valentine to be sent to friends of the Lincoln Library. One of these heart-shaped cards is included with the lot. It says, above and below an image of this document, "Here's a Real Valentine. Big Hearted President Lincoln Sent This Note February 14, 1865. This Pardon Gave Liberty to a Prisoner of the North During the Civil War." An interesting association item. Fine condition. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
