Abraham Lincoln presentation gavel with wood taken from significant places in Lincoln's life. Sterling silver band surrounding mallet reads: ''Abraham Lincoln Relic / Mallet from Tree Planted by Mr. Lincoln in Front of His Residence South Eighth Street, Springfield, Ill. / Handle from the Door Frame in Which Mr. Lincoln and Mary Todd Stood While Being Married in the Edward's Home on South Second Street. / Gift of John L. Taylor to G.K.S. October 1925.'' Housed in original, black leather presentation case with blue velvet interior. Also included in the lot is a notarized document dated 19 April 1924 which reads, in part: ''Personally appeared before me this day, H.E. Barker, who being duly sworn on his oath says that the gavels now being offered for sale at Barker's Art Store are made of RELIC WOOD.'' Gavel measures 11.25'' long and 2.75'' wide at the head. Case measures 12'' x 5.5'' x 2.5''. Some tarnishing to silver band; leather on case shows wear and scuffing. All else in near fine condition. An excellent piece for the barrister.
